quirks: Her mother bred her to be the exact
opposite of who she is today, and she relishes in that fact. She'll walk the streets of New
York wearing no shoes, turn up at a formal dinner with her hair tangled and back chat
constantly in front of guests. She flirts when at a party or with new people, but it’s only for her next lay.
history & personality:
Brash: Alby needs to learn to bite her tongue. Sometimes, without even realizing it, she offends others in the most inexcusable of ways and with the crudest of language. Friends of Alby adore her for her straight-talking ability, and the more time spent with her, the less shocking her direct words become.
Naive: If meeting Alby for the first time, many would believe she was more of a saint than a surfer. She views the world around her with young eyes, often not understanding the things her peers does, or comprehending why certain people act in certain ways. However her constant seduction of men and her knack of staying glued to a board means she falls discreetly into the surfer category.
Optimistic: Her naivety to the good in other also gives Alby the spirit to constantly look on the bright side. When other gives up Alby continues, never seeing that maybe, once the glass might be half empty.
Confident: She oozes with confidence, from the way she walks to how she converses with strangers, it is clear from first glance Alby O’Marley is comfortable in her skin. This trait often helps her when perusing a guy, and gives her the persistence she needs to excel in the areas she’s good at.
Quick Witted: Alby’s Naivety and optimism usually result in many new comers believing they can walk all over her, demeaning her personality completely. However, when it comes to battle of the tongues, Alby often comes out victorious.
She was born to parents who were very much in love, but her arrival tore them apart. Her mother was from the Philippines and her father from Ireland. The first seven years of her life she'd lived in Dublin, in a house right next door to her grandparents. She was given everything she could possibly want, and hated every moment of it. Before her eighth birthday, her parents (Who by this point were arguing constantly) decided to move to New York, where they'd spent their honeymoon, to see if they could rekindle the love they once felt for one another. Alby had never loved something like how she loved New York. Everything about it, from Soho to Queens thrilled her. She was immediately enrolled in the wealthiest prep school, and her mother organized play dates with the children of the city's elite, preparing her daughter for ultimate popularity.
What she hadn’t counted for was the rebellion of her child. She put all her focus and attention into breeding Alby, trying to whip her into what she assumed an adequate daughter. But it wasn’t enough. The appeals of the city made Alby realize that she wasn’t the child she was being brought up to be. She wanted to skateboard and eat fast-food.
It didn’t take long for Alby to shed her royalistic image. Almost over night she appeared to the world a different person. Her friends from the future elite clique looked down their noses but she just shrugged her shoulders, not caring for the fake people she’d never been fond of. She turned her interest to boys, finding fun in making them fall in love with her before ditching them at the end of Times Square.
Her parents divorced when Alby was fourteen, her dad returning to Ireland to look after his sick mother. Alby was left to live with her mother, the woman from hell. She would have almost undoubtedly gone with her father if New York hadn’t meant to much to her.
Now? Her mother has a new, younger man, fourteen years her junior, making him twenty-two. All appears peaceful, she hardly ever argues with her mother. If only Niquita O’Marley knew how close her boyfriend and her daughter actually were.
